Footage of Anderson training for the much anticipated rematch

What do you guys think?  Will Anderson take Chael out in the earlier rounds this time or is it going to be the same Chael taking Silva down every round and dominate him from the top?  Can't wait until they fight in June and end the debate of whether it was the hurt rib and Sonnen's spiked testosterone or is Chael that good?

on a sidenote, Iwould love to see this guy come to MMA.  I read that he also has some Mongolian wrestling background.  He is already 40 years old, but who knows?

Exciting Updates: Silva vs Sonnen venue confirmed,Cung Le vs Rich Franklin, Stefan Struve vs Mark Hunt, Antonio Silva vs Roy Nelson and more

During Dana White’s press conference in Calgary, he said that the much anticipated bout between self proclaimed “People’s Champ” Sonnen versus the always dangerous Anderson Silva will take place in Rio de Janeiro.  They could not have the event in Sao Paulo because of some local ordinances.  The soccer stadium will be open for upto 80000 fans!  If they sell out the show, it has got to be the biggest show in UFC history.  Win or lose for Silva, it has got to be crazy in terms of atmosphere in that building during that night.

Rich Franklin and Cung Le will be going toe to toe at UFC 148.  Rich has been out of action for a while since the loss to Forrest Griffin, where he was taken down several times by Griffin and controlled from the top.  He did however get a nice win against Chuck Liddell, while losing a decision to Dan Henderson.  Cung Le, on the other hand last lost to the legendary Chute Boxe product, Wanderlei Silva.  Cung had his moments in the fight, but got clipped by Wanderlei and ate some brutal knees that dropped him and got finished on the ground.  Although both fighters might be too old to make a title run, they like to trade punches, so it might be a great gift to the fans in the era of Greg Jackson game plans (GSP, Carlos Condit).

The quiet Samoan fighter, Mark Hunt is facing Stefan Struve at UFC 146.  Unless Struve manages take the super Samoan down and submit him, I doubt he has the power to put him away.  Hunt ate a high kick of Mirko Crocop in his prime and kept fighting, so Struve better land some knees or submit him, otherwise, it is Hunt by KO or TKO!  On the same night, Frank Mir will be fighting Cain Velasquez and Antonio Silva fighting Roy Nelson.

Inspirational Fighter of the Day: Max Bee

source:  http://jpmphotoblog.wordpress.com/2011/09/

Found his story off of another blog and thought I had to share this to the MMA lovers.  Gorkhapatra (Nepali newspaper) article says Max is also a wrestler.  So, on paper looks like a perfect MMA fighter.  Looks like Max also helps keep youth away from trouble by teaching them boxing.  With a solid wrestling history and striking experience with an experience like Nepal and India boxing championship, this guy could be the South Asian Chuck Liddell!

See below the full story:

The Report on Super Fight League 1: Sapp vs Thompson

The first ever large scale MMA event in MMA was much better than I had expected.  Sure there were bollywood elements to the show, but overall it was pretty good.  There was a large number of Bollywood actors in attendance, but due to my age I could only recognize, Sanjay Dutt, Sunil Shetty, and Shilpa Shetty.

Spoiler Alert:  Fighters showed a lot of heart and determination except Bob "the tap" Sapp, who tapped after being taken down by Thompson with a double leg takedown. Professor X defeated Joey Guel by TKO due to cuts.  Jimmy Ambriz overwhelmed Satish Jha and won by TKO in 14 seconds!  The most impressive fights of the night were between Sanja Sucevic and Lena Ovchynnikova and Mohd Shahid and Mayura Dissanayake.  Lena was dominating Sanja with her judo and a pretty good ground game with several arm bar attempts, but Sanja perservered and got a rear naked choke of her own to win the fight. They got the submission of the night bonus.  On the other hand, Shahid and Mayura had a back and forth battle.  Shahid managed to take Mayura down and rough him up with some elbows.  Mayura came out in the third round like a madman and won the round by tagging Shahid and wobbling him, but was too tired to finish him!

I will be watching SFL 2 and other shows for sure.  Thanks Raj Kundra and Sanjay Dutt!

SFL 1: Sapp vs Thompson to air Free on Youtube this Sunday March 11, 2012

Sanjay Dutt and Raj Kundra launch Super Fight League (1)Hello Everyone,

Don't forget The Super Fight League (SFL) 1:  Sapp vs Thompson this sunday free on Youtube at Andheri Sports Complex in Mumbai, India at 7:15 pm local time (8:45 am ET, 5:45 am PT, and 1:45 pm in UK).  The inaugural show will include musical acts from Bollywood superstar Bipasha Basu, LMFAO and Jennifer Lopez.

Sapp is coming off of several losses, Thomson has won one of his last several fights and no contest for another.  SFL has also signed Trevor Prangley and Tod Duffee for future fights.  Prangley has notable wins over Chael Sonnen and Keith Jardine.  Prangley's last fight was an honorable decision loss with Hector Lombard and there is no shame in a loss to him, as Lombard is a beast.  Duffee was on a winning streak beating Assuerio Silva and Tim Hague until he met Alistair Overeem and Mike Russow.

SFL is doing the right thing by getting Herb Dean as the main referee, Phil Baroni as color commentator, Bill Mahood as lead official and Wally Carvalho as head cutman.

Have a great weekend and watch this fight y'all!

Breaking News: Chael Sonnen Apologizes to Anderson Silva

source:  mmatorch

According to an article from Yahoo! Sports, Sonnen apologized to Silva by saying, "Anderson, over the last several months, I've disparaged your name in an attempt to garner respect and attention for my own. That was wrong and I apologize. My actions were unsportsmanlike, they were uncalled for."

Do you think it is sincere?  Or is he trying to calm the Brazilian mob before having to fight in Sao Paulo infront of thousands of very passionate fans?

The guy is definitely full of surprises...

Tate vs Rousey: Strikeforce Bantanweight Championship

The main card in this fight includes Ronaldo Jacare Souza vs Bristol Marunde, Paul "Semtex" vs Kazuo Misaki, Josh Thomson vs KJ Noons and Meisha Tate vs Ronda Rousey.

I am picking Jacare by submission. Despite Daley's improving takedown defense, I think Misaki will eventually take the fight down and submit him.  I am hoping that Misaki will be able to avoid the bombs that Daley throws while taking Daley down.  I am going with Josh Thomson over Noons due to his wrestling.

As for the main fight, I am siding with Rousey because of her speed and aggressive ground game.  The only way Tate could win is if she can keep the fight standing and lands a good punch.

Alves vs Kampmann: The Rough Road to GSP's Belt

A poster or logo for UFC on FX: Alves vs. Kampmann.

Dear fight fans,

Dont forget the free card tonight UFC on FX 2 between Thiago "the Pitbull" Alves and Martin Kampmann in Australia.  Everyone on the Internet seems to be picking Alves as the winner.  I, however, think Kampmann will take this due to his heart and technical kickboxing.  Alves is not the most consistent performer, while Kampmann should have won the fight with Jake Shields and Diego Sanchez.

James Te-Huna, a local favorite, is on the preliminary card.  Te-Huna is of Maori descent and  his brother Tama Te-Huna is also a MMA fighter fighting outside of the UFC.  Te-Huna should handily beat Aaron Rosa with his overall greater strength and heavy hands.

As for the flyweight semi finals, Joseph Benavidez and Demetrious Johnson should win and go to the finals.  Benavidez will win because of his wrestling and being the more physically stronger fighter, maybe just being better at everything!  Johnson will win because he has faced stiffer competition than McCall.

Note:  I will write about tomorrow night's Strikeforce bout between Tate and Rousey first thing tomorrow morning.  There are some good fights on that card as well.

Happy friday!
